OMWD Hosts Free Landscape Design Workshops

Learn How to Transform Your Landscape and Increase Water Efficiency

Olivenhain Municipal Water District and San Dieguito Water District have partnered to offer free WaterSmart Landscape Design Workshops. The three-hour courses will be held Wednesday, July 17 and Thursday, October 3, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the San Diego Botanic Garden.

Taught by WaterSmart instructor and landscape architect Michelle Landis, these workshops will provide step-by-step instruction on how to transform traditional turf-heavy landscapes into thriving water-efficient gardens. Landis is regarded as an expert in technical design elements and she is adjunct faculty at a local community college where she teaches principles of regionally appropriate landscape design.

The courses will cover topics including turf removal, soil analysis and amendments, selecting the right plants for the local climate, creating a professional-looking landscape, irrigating efficiently, and how to qualify for rebates for water-saving improvements.

Attendance is free and open to the public, although reservations are required. For more information or to register for a WaterSmart workshop, visit www.olivenhain.com/events or call 760-753-6466.
