No Impact to OMWD from Cyberattacks in Other States; Water Continues to Be Safe to Drink
OMWD is not affected by the recent cyberattacks against water and wastewater infrastructure elsewhere in the US. OMWD’s water continues to be safe to drink, and all water and wastewater systems are operating normally.
In late July, malicious actors targeted water and wastewater systems in Minnesota, Michigan, and other US states. No California agencies were reported to be affected by the attacks. According to the FBI, affected water systems experienced issues like flooding or loss of pressure.
Because water is such a vital resource, OMWD has a robust cybersecurity program in place to protect our customers’ privacy and keep our infrastructure safe.
