Learn How to Transform Your Landscape and Increase Water Efficiency at a Free Workshop

Olivenhain Municipal Water District and San Dieguito Water District have partnered to offer a free WaterSmart Landscape Design Workshop. The event will be held Tuesday, February 19, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Encinitas Community Center, located at 1140 Oakcrest Park Drive in Encinitas.

Taught by WaterSmart instructor and landscape architect Joy Lyndes, this workshop will provide step-by-step instruction on how to transform traditional turf-heavy landscapes into a thriving water-efficient garden. Lyndes was appointed to the Encinitas Environmental Commission and has established herself as an expert in sustainable design, water conservation, and rainwater capture.

The course will cover topics including turf removal, soil analysis and amendments, selecting the right plants for the local climate, creating a professional-looking landscape, irrigating outdoor areas efficiently, and how to qualify for rebates for water-saving improvements. Attendance is free and open to the public, although reservations are required. For more information or to register for this WaterSmart workshop, visit www.olivenhain.com/events or call 760-753-6466.

This free three-hour workshop is offered through a partnership between OMWD, San Dieguito Water District, and San Diego County Water Authority.
