OMWD’s Christy Guerin Named Vice Chair of San Diego County Water Authority Board of Directors
Serving as Vice Chair follows a long history of public service for Director Guerin
The San Diego County Water Authority’s 36-member Board of Directors has selected Olivenhain Municipal Water District’s Christy Guerin as its Vice Chair.
The vote was cast at SDCWA’s September 24 board meeting, at which Otay Water District’s Gary Croucher was also named Chair and the City of San Diego’s Jerry Butkiewicz was named Secretary. The term of office begins October 1, 2020, and continues through September 30, 2022.
“I appreciate the support of my fellow directors and look forward to working with each one of them as Vice Chair,” said Director Guerin. “OMWD and SDCWA have had a strong relationship working towards the common goals of providing clean, safe, and affordable water to our customers and region.”
Director Guerin began serving as OMWD’s representative to the SDCWA board in 2014 and was recently reappointed to another term expiring on August 1, 2026. She has taken a leadership role at the regional water agency during her tenure, serving the last two years as the board’s Secretary as well as serving on the Imported Water Committee and the Legislation and Public Outreach Committee. In addition, Director Guerin has also rendered her services to the SDCWA Colorado River Work Group and the MWD Settlement Negotiations Team.
Her tenure at OMWD began in 2011, when she was appointed to the board. Director Guerin also serves on OMWD’s Personnel, Ad Hoc Public Policy, and Ad Hoc Facilities committees.
Director Guerin’s work at OMWD and SDCWA follows a long history of public service; she is a ten-year veteran of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, and former council member and mayor of the City of Encinitas. In her capacity with the city, Director Guerin served on the San Dieguito Water District board and also represented the city on the San Diego Association of Governments’ board.
SDCWA is governed by a 36-member Board of Directors representing the 24 member agencies in San Diego County, one of which is OMWD.
