- Water-Smart and Fire-Wise Landscape Workshop
September 6, 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Attend a free landscape workshop from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on September 6 at 1966 Olivenhain Road in Encinitas.
Presentations will be provided by California Landscape Technologies, Encinitas Fire Department, and Rancho Santa Fe Fire Protection District. Learn tips on waterwise landscaping, firescaping techniques, and how to safeguard your property against wildfires.

- Open House and Emergency Preparedness Event
September 6, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
OMWD invites you to an informative open house and emergency preparedness event in collaboration with Encinitas Fire Department, Rancho Santa Fe Fire Protection District, SDG&E, and other local agencies. The event will take place at 1966 Olivenhain Road in Encinitas, and includes the opportunity to:- Attend a free Water-Smart and Fire-Wise Landscape Workshop. Information listed above.
- Discover the specialized vehicles utilized by OMWD and our partners to deliver the services you rely on every day.
- Unless there is an emergency, Rancho Santa Fe Fire Protection District and Encinitas Fire Department intend to display a fire truck and engine.
- Explore informational booths featuring OMWD departments and free programs, as well as emergency preparedness efforts of fire departments, SDG&E, and water and wastewater utilities.
- Booths for the Rancho Santa Fe Fire Protection District and Encinitas Fire Department will highlight wildfire and emergency preparedness tips and materials.
- Emergency responders will provide CPR demonstrations.
- Local elementary students will showcase their environmentally focused projects.
- Tour OMWD’s California-friendly demonstration garden, which includes examples of water-efficient plants and highlights key principles of sustainable landscaping.
- Participate in family-friendly activities, enjoy refreshments, and receive a complimentary emergency preparedness and water-efficiency kit, while supplies last.

Facility Tours
Several times a year, OMWD offers tours of its facilities, including Elfin Forest Recreational Reserve, David C. McCollom Water Treatment Plant, and the 4S Ranch Water Reclamation Facility. Please note that Olivenhain Dam and Reservoir are owned by the San Diego County Water Authority; please contact SDCWA for tour opportunities.
Tour Schedule
Tours begin at 8:00 a.m. and end at approximately noon. Reservations must be made by noon on the Monday prior to the scheduled tour date and all attendees must complete a tour release form. Tours may be canceled or closed depending on the level of participation. For safety reasons, tours are not held during inclement weather.
Although this is a shuttled tour, some walking and stair climbing is required, so we recommend wearing comfortable, closed-toe shoes, and loose clothing. It is also suggested that attendees bring a hat, light jacket, and sunscreen.
Transportation capacity is limited to eight passengers and registration for all attendees and their guests is required.
