Olivenhain Municipal Water District, in a collaborative effort with the Surfrider Foundation and Mira Costa College’s Horticulture 230 Landscape Architecture class, has challenged local college students to spend the fall semester employing ecological principles in designing a sustainable landscape demonstration garden to be located at OMWD’s campus. In the midst of major construction at its campus, OMWD began planning earlier in the year to transform its current landscape into an interpretive garden showcasing sustainable principles duplicable in a residential setting. OMWD was required to update landscaping at its campus in order to fulfill the terms of its conditional use permit with the City of Carlsbad. Construction of the sustainable landscape demonstration garden is expected to begin in 2011. Please see the video introduction below.
Final Presentations given by students on December 7, 2010. The final OMWD concept plan will incorporate elements from each of the plans created by the student groups. _____________________________________________________________________________ Classroom presentations to guide the student designs - November 9, 2010 _____________________________________________________________________________ Classroom presentation providing an example fo a demonstration garden - November 2, 2010 Mira Costa Students Client Research PowerPoints - October 19, 2010 Mira Costa Students and Surfrider Foundation Join OMWD and Consultant G3 for Design Phase Kick-off on September 28, 2010
