OMWD operates two hydroelectric facilities. The original plant is located at the Roger Miller Reservoir in the hills above Encinitas. This plant uses high-pressure water delivered from a nearby reservoir to power its turbines. That allows the plant to deliver a peak capacity of 450 kW. The second hydroelectric plant is located at the David C. McCollom Water Treatment Plant. Imported water passes through turbines that convert the hydraulic energy into mechanical energy through direct-coupled blowers and electrical energy through attached induction generators.
